حملة لتعزيز مستوى استخدام الانترنت

Today on BBC Xtra we have been talking about getting more adults online in the UK.

In the UK there are nine million adults who have never used the internet before.

The UK has an aging population and as a result people have not had the chance to learn to use the internet in school.

It is also difficult for older people to learn from younger people as they do not always have the patience or the teaching skills necessary.

The BBC is launching a "First Click" campaign to try to reach as many of those nine million people as possible and get them to use the internet for the first time.

This will include a free telephone advice line to help people find free, or very cheap, courses in their area to help them learn to use the internet.

The BBC's Head of Literacy Martin Wilson says that as well as providing these courses the campaign is also raising awareness about the benefits of the internet.

He says the internet can help people save money, get in touch with relatives through e-mail, provide entertainment, and a whole raft of other things.

The campaign is also helping people to use computer programmes such as word processors for the first time.

Now if you've never used the internet before, tell us why by writing to us in English!
