Warning after tumble dryer fire at children's home

Firefighters have warned of the potential dangers of tumble dryers following a blaze at a Denbighshire children's home.

A man and a woman were hospitalised after suffering smoke inhalation following the incident at 2100 GMT on Wednesday in Llangollen.

None of the child residents was injured.

It is thought an electrical fault in the tumble dryer started the fire in the property's utility room.

North Wales Fire and Rescue Service said all residents - four children and two adults - evacuated the building, but the man was injured when he returned to try to tackle the blaze.

Spokesman Wayne Monslow advised people to take precautions which include not overloading tumble dryers and not operating them while residents are out or in bed.

He added: "One of the adult occupants appears to have tried to tackle the fire himself with fire extinguishers.

"Our advice upon discovering a fire is to get out, stay out and call the fire and rescue service out.

"Putting your own life at risk just isn't worth it."
