The fatal crash caused major traffic jams on the A30 as the road was closed for almost seven hours
A collision between a car and a prison van in Cornwall which left a 78-year-old man dead was the result of an accident, a coroner has ruled.
Edward Hosken, of Liskeard, died at the scene on the A30 at Bolventor last August, the inquest in Truro was told.
An 18-year-old male prisoner in the van suffered a broken nose but the two guards with him were uninjured.
Barrie van den Berg, assistant deputy Cornwall Coroner, recorded a verdict of accidental death.
The inquest, on Tuesday, concluded that Mr Hosken drove his Peugeot across the A30 when he was struck by a truck.
The crash, which happened on 29 August, led to the A30 being closed in both directions for almost seven hours and resulted in long tailbacks.
