Headteacher: 'New league tables need context'
New school league tables show just one in six secondary school pupils in England has met the government's new benchmark for success at GCSE level.
The English Baccalaureate shows how many pupils get grades A star to C in five core subjects.
Dr Peter Kent, head at Lawrence Sheriff School, a selective state school for boys in Rugby, said the league tables needed to be looked at in context.
His school came top of the table for traditional measures, but did not do as well when judged on success in the new English baccalaureate.
