Cable confirms university access chief appointment

Business Secretary Vince Cable has defended the appointment of Professor Les Ebdon as the official in charge of ensuring all students have a fair chance of securing a place at universities in England.

Some Conservative MPs have tried to block his appointment but Mr Cable said the recruitment process had been competitive and transparent and Professor Ebdon was the right man for the job.
