Students in England, Wales and Northern Ireland have been getting their GCSE results today.

Whilst most will be teenagers, there are others - older and younger - who have been waiting to see whether they have passed.

Here are their stories.

Ross Orpin from Paddock Wood

"I am 26-years-old, today. I am a trainee paramedic for the ambulance service.

I got a C in maths and a B in science, which I'm absolutely delighted about, as I need the results in order to be eligible to apply for my paramedic degree.

I've been studying at college, alongside working shifts over the past year.

It was difficult trying to study after years out of school, but I realised how important it was and knew it would give me a better chance of progressing in my career.

I took it a lot more seriously than I did when I was younger. And now that has been rewarded."

Arunthava from Bushey

"My son is 10-years-old and has got A* in GCSE mathematics.

He is also a MENSA member, with an IQ of 150.

I am really proud of him and want to thank Bushey primary state school for their support.

He is in year five, a good six years behind the average GCSE student.

We told him he had the option of whether he wanted to sit the exam or not, so we are not forcing him. He said he wanted to do it and did extremely well.

My husband is also very good at maths, so that must be where his ability comes from."
