Jane Horrocks is to cover songs by Joy Division and The Human League in a new show at the Young Vic theatre.

If You Kiss Me, Kiss Me, will see the actress perform a selection of new wave hits in what she describes as a "combo of a gig and a show".

"They're all perfect songs but we'll do a different take on quite a lot of them," Horrocks told the Guardian, external.

The all-singing show - which features no dialogue - will debut in London in March 2016.

The Young Vic's artistic director David Lan described the production as "a new kind of show," that will be "part dance piece, part gig" with a full live band.

The show will conjure "the hopes, disillusionment and messy relationships that were the hallmarks of the 1970s and 80s music scene in the UK," he added.

Horrocks, who previously impersonated Edith Piaf, Judy Garland and Shirley Bassey in Little Voice, described herself as a "post-punk child" who grew up in Lancashire in the late seventies and early eighties.

"This show is like a dream for me. I've not felt this creatively inspired for a very long time," she said.

"I thought: 'Why don't you do a show, use these brilliant pieces of music and give them a theatricality?'"

"I don't really respond to musicals and a lot of the time it is to do with the speaking... It's that merging of singing and speaking I don't really get and there will be no speaking in this show," she added.

If You Kiss Me, Kiss Me will be directed and choreographed by Aletta Collins (Bend It Like Beckham) and will run from March 10 to April 16 2016 in the Young Vic's Main House.
