He was, without question, one of the most modest and calm and humble people that I have ever met. I could honestly say, and I worked with him on a few occasions, I never heard him speak a cross or ill word. And what's more when he played...once he got into a boogie he was lost in it, and his neck would involuntarily start to move and he'd start to play the blues. Once he got lost in it, it was great. He was really an inspiration to us all...how to enjoy not just the blues, but music. He was really a musician's musician, in that sense that he was a true, great artist that has never really been swayed by fashion. And what BB played was very easy for people to understand but had a great depth to it as well. You didn't have to know anything about the blues to kind of hear him playing the guitar. Suddenly everything feels great.

BB King was an enormous influence on me and for countless others. I first heard him on the record Live At The Regal at 15, and was struck by the sound and the emotion in his playing and singing, and the effect of both on the audience. It was an honour to be a part of BB King and Friends, his 80th birthday recording of duets. BB will always be in my heart.

I want to thank him for all the inspiration and encouragement he gave me as a player over the years and the friendship we enjoyed. "There is not a lot left to say because this music is almost a thing of the past now and there are not many left who play it in the pure way that BB did. "He was a beacon for all of us who love this kind of music and I thank him from the bottom of my heart.

This morning, I come to you all with a heavy heart. BB King was the greatest guy I ever met. The tone he got out of that guitar, the way he shook his left wrist, the way he squeezed the strings... man, he came out with that and it was all new to the whole guitar playin' world. He could play so smooth, he didn't have to put on a show. The way BB did it is the way we all do it now. He was my best friend and father to us all. I'll miss you, B. I love you and I promise I will keep these damn Blues alive. Rest well. All my love, Buddy
