The University Challenge contestant whose photo went viral after appearing on the show wearing a pleather vest has told the BBC he "didn't clock that the vest was going to be that outrageous." 

"I just thought I can't look like the same old University Challenge contestant," Kaamil Shah told 5 live Breakfast, "because I don't feel like the same old University Challenge contestant. 

"I definitely just didn't want to wear a Christmas jumper or a boring suit, so I thought 'I'm going to dress like I normally do'." 

BBC 6 Music has unveiled the next band to perform as part of its Live at Maida Vale event next month - and it's indie legends Mercury Rev.

Fight Club and King's Speech star Helena Bonham Carter has granted Bryan Adams a cameo in the video for his new single, Brand New Day.

She doesn't appear with the Canadian singer, but is seen in cut-aways accosting Theo Hutchcraft from the synth-pop band Hurts, for reasons that aren't immediately apparent.

"I’ve been slapped and pushed around… but I’ve taken it with pleasure," says Theo. 

Helena added the shoot had been "good anger therapy for me."

Former Disney star and American Idol judge Demi Lovato has been open about her struggle with body image and eating disorders.

But, a month ago, she posed for a daring photoshoot with the US edition of Cosmpolitan magazine, stating she'd never felt more comfortable in her own skin. 

The singer popped into Radio 1's Live Lounge today, where she spoke to Clara Amfo about her new-found confidence.

Demi also played an acoustic version of her hit single Cool For The Summer, as well as a cover of Hozier's Take Me To Church - which you can see below.

He was a consultant on Danny Boyle's new Steve Jobs film, but many wondered what Apple's co-founder Steve Wozniak would make of the film, after the trailer showed him (or Seth Rogen who plays him) getting a little "frustrated" with Jobs.

But Woz - as he's commonly known - has shared his verdict with the BBC in his first interview about the film, and he's more than satisfied with the outcome:

Not everyone gets Kanye West, but Duran Duran's Nick Rhodes has been been telling the BBC all about the band's appreciation for the rapper.

The band return with their 14th studio album Paper Gods later this week. Read our full interview for more on reinventing that Duran Duran sound, working with the "dream team" of Mark Ronson and Nile Rodgers and getting past frayed tempers in the studio.

Former Radio 1 presenter Fearne Cotton has announced the birth of a baby daughter on Twitter.

But one person might not be so pleased about the new arrival... And that's Fearne's son, Rex, who was apparently hoping for a baby brother.

Writing on Twitter last month, Fearne said she'd asked the two-year-old what his new sibling should be called.

His reply? 

"Bob the builder baby."

Winsome pop star Lana Del Rey has posted a four-track preview of her third album, Honeymoon, on YouTube.

Featuring the songs Terence Loves You, Music To Watch Girls By, Freak and High By The Beach, it gives fans an early taste of the record, which comes out on 18 September.

Warning: It's pretty soporific. Don't try to operate any heavy machinery after watching.

An anti-Nazi song that was first a hit 22 years ago has returned to the top of the German charts, amid right-wing protests against Syrian refugees.

Cry for Love by Die Artze (The Doctors) was originally recorded about anti-refugee protests during the war in Yugoslavia.

The expletive-laden song is directed at the far right, taunting: "Your army boots are longing for affection. You never learned to articulate yourself. And your parents never had time for you!"

The band have said they will give proceeds from the sale of the track to charity.

Coronation Street is staging an hour-long live episode to mark 60 years of ITV (and 55 of Corrie) later this month.

As you can imagine, a lot of work goes into making sure things run smoothly - so rehearsals have started today, giving the cast and crew 12 days to perfect their entrances and exits.

The episode will see the Platt family confronting drug dealer Callum Loga; and Tim finding out about Kevin and Sally’s secret kiss; and Lloyd and Andrea’s leaving party in the Rovers.

At 3.55pm on 9 September 1985, Phillip Schofield presented the first slot for the all-new "Children's BBC". 

His introductions to the programmes came from a tiny control desk, dubbed the Broom Cupboard, deep in the bowels of Television Centre. 

Over the years, the likes of Andy Crane, Andi Peters and Zoe Ball - not to mention Gordon the Gopher and Edd the Duck - all got their big break in the cupboard, introducing children's programmes on BBC One (and BBC Two during Wimbledon). 

Today marks the 30th anniversary of children's presentation on the BBC... So we'd like to hear your favourite memories of the Broom Cupboard days.

Last time we saw Jason Bourne, he was floating face down in New York's East River. 

But we can now definitively confirm he's alive, with the first official shot of Matt Damon back in his most famous role.

It was posted by producer Frank Marshall on Twitter as the first day of filming drew to a close - and reveals a leaner, tougher Damon than we saw in 2007's Bourne Ultimatum.

The film is due in July next year, with co-stars Julia Stiles, Alicia Vikander, Tommy Lee Jones and Vincent Cassel.

Remember when Ellie Goulding teased everyone with a photo of Abbey Road, and the suggestion she could have just recorded the new Bond theme?

Well now that Sam Smith has finally admitted he's the voice behind the song, Ellie has revealed the true nature of her involvement with the 007 franchise, telling fans: "So excited to announce that I am the next James Bond x

Glad we've cleared that one up. 

Meanwhile, NME has been shining a light on Sam Smith's penchant for telling Bond-shaped porkies. They've cleverly rounded up the "many many times" the Stay With Me singer lied about NOT being the singer , externalof the new Bond theme.

Two star reviews don't normally make it onto film posters - but the producers of the new Tom Hardy film, Legend, have found a way around that.

The subterfuge was spotted by The Guardian's film critic Benjamin Lee - who posted this, external to Twitter:

Lee's review, which you can read here, external, called the Kray Twins' biopic "cartoonish" and "disappointingly shallow".

The brothers would presumably approve of the publicist's tactics.
