Facebook privacy: Do you care?

Facebook had changed its privacy settings - again.

The site caved in to criticism that the current system was too confusing.

Its 170 different options left many users accidentally sharing information they wanted to stay private.

The new, cut down security centre presents all the settings on one screen.

It's not the first time Facebook has been forced into a security rethink after complaints from members.

When the system was re-jigged in April 2009, many users found information that had previously been private, became public.

In December 2009, the options changed again, giving users more control over their information.

However, Facebook was criticised for 'suggesting' that users should make of their content public.

Happy to share

KAREN: I think the present settings are alright, it's just that some people are too thick to understand them.

PATRICK: If people are that scared about Facebook privacy - why be on Facebook in the first place?

ROXANNE: I am not sure what my profile's like but if you don't like people seeing your info, then don't add it on Facebook. Also don't add people you don't know!

KAMAL: Anyone can see my profile (obviously not my address) but apart from that, I don't see how it can affect me in a bad way.

Keep it secret

ISABEL: It's really bad because I just checked my private information, and all of it was on my public profile. I'm just fed up of it changing now.

CHRIS: A friend of mine is a closeted homosexual and chooses to remain that way, his choice. However, his privacy settings were set high to keep things as they were for him. Yet after commenting on a friend's photo which would "out" him it published to everyone on his Facebook account which it wasn't meant to do and caused a lot of problems for him.
