Jack White has told Zane Lowe his band wrote most of their new album Lazaretto on their last tour.

During a special session at Maida Vale, which was broadcast live on BBC Radio 1, he said: "We did a lot of songs on the road.

"When we were on the last tour. We wrote many really fast, and they were full of energy. "

The 38-year-old wore a 60s style blue suit to perform with his band at the iconic studios in West London.

During the live session, Jack White played his new single Lazaretto, as well as performing hits from his previous bands including Top Yourself by the Raconteurs and Seven Nation Army by the White Stripes.

One of the instruments used in the performance was a Bass Guitar made out of solid aluminium which Jack claimed was "made for the 1930s on cruise ships so it wouldn't rot".

He also talked about setting up his new studios in Nashville, Tennessee, in March 2009 to go alongside his label Third Man Records.

"With all the great studios, you just want to make somewhere where things feel right and you can do what feels right. If it connects with people then great."

Zane Lowe asked about White's performance at Glastonbury, which he said had a "sense of attack".

He replied by saying: "The crowd had been rained on all day and they were so far away. I just had to do what I had to do."

The live performance was ahead of his sold out show at the Hammersmith Apollo on 3 July as well as three arena tour dates later this year.

Jack White's UK tour dates are as follows:

London, Eventim Apollo - 3 July

Leeds, First Direct Arena - 17 November

Glasgow, SSE Hydro - 18

London, O2 Arena - 19
