While the internet got angry at Anthony Horowitz's comments about the possibility of Idris Elba playing Bond, Idris himself stayed quiet.

Until now that is.

"Always Keep Smiling!! It takes no energy and never hurts! Learned that from the Street!!" with a smilie face added to the post and he said #septemberstillloveyou.

Elba has long been touted as a possible successor to Daniel Craig as the fictional secret service agent.

However, that's never been confirmed by those behind the franchise.

Elba posted a screengrab of an article entitled "007 writer says Idris Elba is 'too street' to play James Bond, quickly apologies" along with a smiling picture of himself on his Instagram account., external

Speculation was fuelled after Sony's emails were leaked online with the discovery a senior executive at Sony said he should play 007.

And the actor himself has said he "feels like a national treasure", external being associated with Bond speculation.

Author Anthony Horowitz has now apologised for saying he thought Idris Elba was "too street" to be the next James Bond after a storm on social media.

Horowitz, who has written a new James Bond book, made his comments about Elba - best known for his roles in Luther and The Wire - to the Mail on Sunday.

But fans of the franchise and Idris Elba didn't take kindly to his comments to them.

Horowitz has now said the word "street" was "a poor choice of word" and he was "mortified to have caused offence".

Some pointed out that they felt the comment was racist, although Horowitz did explain in his original interview that his comments had nothing to do with Idris' colour., external

But some people pointed out that acting is just that: acting., external
