Horsing around with motion capture

Researchers at the University of Bradford are using motion capture technology to improve the biomechanical accuracy of animated animals.

Motion capture is traditionally used to record the movement of humans, but the team - which includes computer scientists and veterinary scientists - has used a suite of cameras and sensors to record details of how horses move.

Originally developed as a teaching aid for veterinary students, the team's software is already being used by some film production and computer game companies.

The technique was presented to journalists and the public at the British Science Festival, external.
