There's no shortage of advice for Chancellor George Osborne in Thursday's newspapers after UK GDP figures indicated a worsening recession.

The <link> <caption>Times says the task facing the coalition</caption> <url href="http://www.thetimes.co.uk/tto/news/" platform="highweb"/> </link> is different and even more difficult than the one it inherited.

In its leader, the <link> <caption>Daily Telegraph calls for the government to adopt radical "game-changing"</caption> <url href="http://www.telegraph.co.uk/comment/telegraph-view/9426441/Bolder-action-could-reverse-this-slump.html" platform="highweb"/> </link> measures.

The <link> <caption>Guardian says coalition plans are in tatters</caption> <url href="http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree/2012/jul/25/the-recession-osbornes-mess" platform="highweb"/> </link> but the <link> <caption>Independent cites differing indicators</caption> <url href="http://www.independent.co.uk/opinion/leading-articles/leading-article-another-blow-to-the-chancellors-strategy-7976590.html" platform="highweb"/> </link> and says the time is not right for a "wholesale rethink".

Violent games

Figures on violence in primary schools make headlines.

The <link> <caption>Daily Mail leads with news of what it calls a "rising tide of violent indiscipline"</caption> <url href="http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2178718/90-primary-pupils-sent-home-day-attacks-class-Shocking-figures-reveal-rising-school-violence.html" platform="highweb"/> </link> .

The <link> <caption>Independent says the figures include more than 2,000 four and five-year-olds</caption> <url href="http://www.independent.co.uk/news/education/education-news/primary-schools-exclude-89-pupils-a-day-over-violence-7976843.html" platform="highweb"/> </link> who are excluded from school each year.

It says teachers' leaders blame parents for failing to bring their children to school ready to learn and allowing them access to violent computer games.

Stowaway boy

The <link> <caption>Sun has spoken to the Manchester boy who flew to Rome</caption> <url href="http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/news/4454126/Liam-11-I-flew-to-Rome-alone-with-no-passport-or-ticket.html" platform="highweb"/> </link> after getting on a passenger plane unchallenged.

The 11-year-old Liam Corcoran-Fort tells the paper: "I just wanted to go to the toilet. I wasn't trying to go anywhere I wasn't allowed."

<link> <caption>Speaking to the Daily Telegraph, his father said:</caption> <url href="http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/aviation/9427509/Stowaway-Liam-Corcoran-panicked-after-swimming-accident-says-father.html" platform="highweb"/> </link> "If he had got off the plane as easily as he got on, Lord knows what would have happened to him."

'Dream start'

A number of front pages picture Team GB's women footballers celebrating the goal which won them the first match at the Olympics.

"A dream start" declares the Daily Mirror. The Games are not yet officially open, <link> <caption> says the Times, but Team GB are already off and winning.</caption> <url href="http://www.thetimes.co.uk/tto/news/" platform="highweb"/> </link>

The <link> <caption>Guardian </caption> <url href="http://www.guardian.co.uk/sport/2012/jul/25/london-2012-great-britain-women-new-zealand" platform="highweb"/> </link> and <link> <caption>Daily Telegraph</caption> <url href="http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/olympics/Team-GB/9426965/London-2012-Olympics-Team-GB-opens-the-Games-with-1-0-victory-over-New-Zealand.html" platform="highweb"/> </link> also feature the team on their front pages.

But <link> <caption>Matthew Engel in the Financial Times says he was underwhelmed</caption> <url href="http://www.ft.com/cms/s/0/881f5306-d686-11e1-bd9c-00144feabdc0.html" platform="highweb"/> </link> by the "absurdly anti-climactic beginning".
