Internet trolls face up to two years in jail under new laws

Internet users who post abusive or threatening material online to other people will face up to two years in prison under new government plans.

The previous maximum sentence of six months will be quadrupled to tackle so called trolls.

In an interview with a national newspaper, the Justice Secretary Chris Grayling said these people "poison" national life.

The plan has been announced days after TV presenter Chloe Madeley suffered online abuse, after defending her mother Judy Finnigan's comments on a rape committed by footballer Ched Evans.

Christian Fraser reports.
