Lord Janner appears in court over child sex abuse charges

The former Labour MP, Lord Janner, has appeared in court for the first time, to be charged with 22 sexual offences against children.

His lawyers failed to persuade the district judge that it would be too distressing for him to appear at Westminster magistrates court in person; the judge threatened to have him arrested if he failed to turn up. Lord Janner, who's 87, suffers from dementia.

The BBC's Home Affairs Correspondent Tom Symonds reports.
