'Pet insurance may have led to thousands of pounds of debt'

The Information Commissioner's Office is to look into claims that the personal details of an 87-year-old man were sold or passed on by charities up to 200 times.

An investigation by the Daily Mail found that Samuel Rae, who has dementia, lost £35,000 after his information eventually ended up with scammers.

Mr Rae's son, Chris, said he believed the problems started when his father bought pet insurance from a charity, and that he felt charities should now be "kept at arm's length".
