Stormont crisis: First Minister Peter Robinson steps down
Northern Ireland's First Minister Peter Robinson has stepped down over the political crisis at Stormont, leaving the assembly's future in doubt.
The crisis was sparked by an ex-IRA man's murder and a police assessment that members of the republican paramilitary group may have been involved.
Mr Robinson's DUP had called for the assembly to be adjourned in the wake of the incident but the motion was defeated on Thursday, with the Ulster Unionists, the SDLP and Sinn Féin voting against.
