NHS approves £71m plan for Stevenage's Lister Hospital
The £71m upgrade will provide a new ward and theatre blocks and A&E department
A £71m scheme to redevelop the Lister Hospital in Stevenage has been approved by the NHS.
The announcement means the hospital can build a new ward block and theatre block.
It is also expanding its accident and emergency department, allowing it to handle up to 100,000 patients a year.
Detailed plans will now be drawn up and the last stage of construction could begin next summer, said East and North Hertfordshire NHS Trust.
The trust's chief executive Nick Carver said: "We now believe that we have secured an outcome that allows us to bring much needed investment to our hospital services."
