Nearly 500 council-owned homes on a Buckinghamshire estate are being refurbished to make them greener.
Nearly £8m is being spent on the Lakes Estate in Milton Keynes installing double glazing, wall insulation and cladding.
Milton Keynes Council said it could lead to the houses becoming up to 20% more energy efficient.
It said the estate was chosen for the project as it had been identified as a "main priority area" for regeneration.
The Lakes Estate was built between 1968 and 1975 and consists of 2,200 homes, about half of which are owned by Milton Keynes Council.
