A pilot has escaped with minor injuries after his helicopter crashed in Hertfordshire.

Firefighters were called to a field just outside Aldbury, near Tring, just before 17:00 BST on Wednesday.

It is believed the helicopter came into contact with cables shortly after take off. The pilot was treated for minor injuries at the scene and taken to hospital as a precaution.

The Air Accidents Investigation Branch (AAIB) has been informed.

Hertfordshire Fire Service Station Commander Steve Borell said it was "quite remarkable" that nobody was killed.

"The cockpit itself has held together remarkably well and the pilot has only suffered cuts and grazes and walked away from the scene," he said.
