A man has been arrested after a woman died in a two-vehicle crash in Bedfordshire.

The driver, who was in her 50s, was pronounced dead at the scene following the crash on the A428 in Bromham, at about 17:45 BST on Tuesday.

A man has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

Five people have died on the county's roads in just over a week. Earlier on Tuesday, a cyclist died after being hit by a vehicle on the westbound A421.

The road was closed for more than eight hours and a 66-year-old man from Colchester was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving, failing to stop at the scene of a collision and failing to report an accident.

He has been bailed until December.

Last week, a pedestrian died in Dunstable, a motorcyclist was killed in Biggleswade and a car driver died in Toddington.
