Views are being sought on how to spend £1.95m allocated to improve sports facilities in Berkshire.

A public consultation has opened into potential plans for the former Ryeish Green School site, near Wokingham.

Wokingham Borough Council's preferred option is to upgrade a number of existing grass pitches and build a floodlit all-weather surface pitch.

Funding has been secured from developers building homes in Shinfield, Spencers Wood and Three Mile Cross.

The six-week consultation,, external which closes on 26 June, will also look at the former Ryeish Green Leisure Centre.

The currently disused sports hall, next to Oakbank School, could be reopened or refurbished.

Conservative borough councillor Angus Ross said the former school site was currently partly managed by the parish council and used by Oakbank School.

"The pitches there are sorely in need of retention and drainage, but we're keen to consult with local people on what they feel could be the wider uses of that site," he said.

"Hopefully we can find users and uses which will can make it work financially.

"I think we've got a lot we can provide there on land we already have."
