A trial ban on the signs was imposed after residents complained over the high concentrations of lettings boards
A ban on lettings signs in part of Reading has been agreed by councillors.
Reading Borough Council has brought in the permanent ban outside properties in east Reading amid residents' concerns over the high number of signs.
The authority said up to 180 boards could be on display on some roads in the university area.
It comes after estate agents in the area agreed not to put 'to let' signs outside properties as part of a six-month pilot scheme.
The ban affects properties in the London Road, Alexandra Road, Upper Redlands Road and Eastern Avenue areas.
Councillor Tony Page said the temporary ban had made a "real difference" to residents in the area.
Feedback from estate agents said there had been little impact on business because most lettings were now done online, according to the council.
For sale signs are not included in the ban.
Reading Borough Council said it also planned to extend the scheme on a voluntary basis to streets in west Reading.
