Bracknell's £1.7m water pipe replacement works lead to road closures

Residents have been warned to expect disruption over the next 18 months during £1.7m water pipe replacement works in Bracknell.

South East Water will make a series of road closures, external, including in Opladen Way, as it aims to reduce the risk of flooding to properties in the area.

Residents have suffered repeated problems with burst pipes in the past.

Chris Love, from the firm, said many pipes were "very old and prone to bursting".

"This has caused flooding to homes in the past which is unacceptable to us," he added.

About 3.8km (2.6 miles) of pipeline will be replaced. Work is due to start this month in Ringmead.

Mr Love said: "We know that this will cause some short term disruption but we are confident that the long-term benefits will be felt for years to come."

New larger pipes will carry water to and from an underground storage reservoir, enabling more capacity at times of high demand, while smaller pipes will take water straight to homes and businesses, the water company said.

The work is expected to end in January 2017.
