A driver who died two days after a crash in Berkshire has given the "gift of life to others" by donating his organs, his family has said.

James Ballantyne, from Hungerford, was driving a Mazda MX5 when it collided with a Skoda Fabia on the A4 at Halfway near Newbury on Friday.

The 23-year-old died early on Sunday.

Mr Ballantyne's family said he was a keen fencer and a popular volunteer barman at his local community pub The Tally Ho in Hungerford.

In a statement, they said: "He attended Chilton Foliat Primary School and St Barts where he entertained his Curnock housemates with his magic acts.

"He then headed off to Cardiff for an Electronic Engineering degree before returning to Hungerford to work for Fuel Cell Systems."

Mr Ballantyne had been treasurer of Newbury Fencing Club and had also fenced at Marlborough.

"He was on the NHS Organ Donor Register so was able to give the gift of life to others," the statement said.
