The road works are part of a £300,000 scheme by South East Water to replace leaking pipes
Work to lay water pipes in Wokingham is harming business, according to shops affected by road diversions.
Signs have been put up warning Rances Lane is closed, while a row of shops further along this road are still open for business.
Shops located on the route in Wokingham say there has been a 50% downturn since works began.
South East Water said it would speak to business owners and work with the council to put up better signage.
The road works are part of a £300,000 scheme by South East Water to replace leaking pipes in Waterloo Road and Priest Avenue.
It began in July and should be finished by December.
Sue Lara, owner of Caring Comes First Mobility, said: "It is having quite an impact at the moment because the footfall isn't there."
Mr Patel, of Santram Newsagents, in Rances Lane said his regular customers were going elsewhere.
"We are very disappointed," he said.
