The body of the man, in his 40s, was found near a railway line in Hadleigh, Essex
The discovery of a man's body, thought to have been electrocuted near an Essex railway line, could be linked to an attempted cable theft, police said.
Officers were called to Hadleigh in Essex shortly before 07:00 BST after reports of disruption to power lines.
The body of the man, in his 40s, was found and police believe the death may have been related to cable theft.
"This death is currently being treated as unexplained," a British Transport Police spokesman said.
"BTP, Essex Police, East of England Ambulance Service and Network Rail attended the scene and the body of a man in his 40s was found beside the line."
The possibility that the death was related to an attempted cable theft was "one line of inquiry at this time", he added.
Officers are working to clear the line and also to establish the man's identity "and the circumstances surrounding this death", the spokesman said.
