Allan Frampton died after being repeatedly run over in May
A man killed his wife's new partner after he was recorded threatening to do so in a conversation, a court heard.
Taxi firm boss Nasser Rezaie made the threats, recorded by his wife Jane on her phone, 11 months before he ran Allan Frampton over, Chelmsford Crown Court heard.
Mr Rezaie, 63, repeatedly ran over Mr Frampton with his silver Mercedes in Chelmsford in May, the jury was told.
He denies murder but accepts killing the 60-year-old divorced grandfather.
Mr Frampton, a mechanic, died at the scene in Osea Way from multiple injuries.
Mr Rezaie, who runs Ali's Taxis, argues his actions were a result of losing control and were not premeditated, which would make him guilty of the lesser charge of manslaughter.
Two-year affair
Mrs Rezaie, 57, told the court she and her husband had opened the taxi business, after moving the UK following their first meeting in the Iranian capital Tehran, in 1973.
Their marriage started to break down in 1990, but they stayed together for the sake of their three children, the jury heard.
Mrs Rezaie said she began having an affair with Mr Frampton in July 2012, after he started renting a workshop from the couple.
The affair continued for nearly two years before she told her husband.
She told the court that she moved out after he punched her and threw her belongings down the stairs.
In June last year, she met her estranged husband at a Sainsbury's café, recording the threats he made about Mr Frampton during the conversation, which was played to the court.
He later reminded his wife of the threats made in the supermarket, saying in one voicemail message: "Every day, every hour, I am thinking about the promise I made you in Sainsbury's. I will do it," the jury was told.
The trial continues.
