The deck of the 40-year-old bridge needs to be replaced because of concrete damage
The M5 near Gloucester is to be closed for two nights over the weekend for bridge maintenance work.
Northbound lanes between junctions 11a and 12 will be closed overnight on Saturday and southbound on Sunday, for essential maintenance work on Gloucester Painswick Bridge.
The work will take place between 22:00 BST and 06:00, on both nights.
Dave Frampton from the Highways Agency said: "Clearly signed diversions will be in place for both closures."
