The M27 junction 3 into Southampton and the docks is used daily by 96,000 drivers according to the Highways Agency
Work on a £2.3m scheme to tackle congestion on a motorway junction into Southampton and the docks is under way.
The westbound exit slip at junction 3 of the M27 is being widened to three lanes and traffic lights are being added on the roundabout onto the M271.
The Highways Agency's Ed French, said: "I advise anyone wishing to use either junction to plan their journeys and to allow extra time."
Lane closures and a reduced speed limit will be in place during the work.
The upgrade, which forms part of the government's £317m pinch-point programme on motorways and major trunk roads, is expected to be completed in March.
