Daniel McGrath leaves behind a wife and son

A man who died in a car crash on the Isle of Wight was a community carer who was en route to making home visits.

Daniel McGrath, 54, of Tennyson Road, Freshwater died after the incident involving no other vehicles on Military Road, Freshwater on Sunday evening.

He worked for "many years helping less able people lead as normal a life as possible", his family said in tribute.

They said he was "a loving, caring man" who showed "a rare level of compassion for the people he looked after".

In a statement released via Hampshire Constabulary, the family said: "It was whilst he was going about his job visiting people in need of care that he had his crash which resulted in his death.

"He will be sadly missed by his colleagues and the people he cared for but none more than his wife Gemma and other family members including his son Aaron."
