A workman has been injured in a fall from a rollercoaster.

The man slipped and fell more than seven metres (23ft) while dismantling the structure at Funland, on Hayling Island, at about 10:00 BST.

He was taken to Queen Alexandra Hospital, Portsmouth, with a broken arm and leg. His condition is described as serious but not life threatening.

Marshall Hill, the owner of the amusement park, described it as a "really unfortunate" incident.

"Our thoughts are with his family," he said. "We are family people."

The workman, a 47-year-old from Romania, was a third party contractor and part of a six-man team working to dismantle the ride which has been sold to a company in Ireland.
