Paddy detects owner's breast cancer

A dog owner has said her pet alerted her to the fact that she had breast cancer.

Karin Gibson, 62, from Hilsea, Portsmouth, was prompted to visit her doctor after her Labrador Paddy kept pawing at the affected area.

A biopsy and mammogram took place on 4 September and less than two weeks later, it was confirmed she had a small but invasive carcinoma of the right breast.

The retired science teacher is due to have an operation on 1 October and said she was positive thanks to plucky Paddy's early detection abilities.
