The planned burial site on the former military base in Calshot
A former military airbase in the New Forest is to be turned into a cemetery.
New Forest District Council wants to create 2,000 burial spaces on the former Royal Naval Air Squadron base at Calshot.
The authority had been looking for a new burial space as the nearby Blackfield Cemetery is almost full.
The land, a military base in the two world wars, is expected to be developed in three phases, the first of which would provide 700 grave spaces.
New Forest District Council's planning committee also approved a community area and a wildlife trail on the council-owned site.
The Eaglehurst Camp housed members of the Royal Naval Air Squadron from 1917.
