Mr and Mrs Hudson say they did not know how they would cope with the loss of their three grandchildren
Fire officers have visited the school of three children killed in a house fire in Bridlington in an effort to prevent another tragedy.
Three-year-old Maddie Hudson, Anthony Hudson, five and William Beale, nine, died in the blaze in Clarence Avenue, Bridlington, on 11 November.
Their mother Samantha Hudson, 27, was rescued from the house and is critically ill in Scarborough hospital.
A fire safety talk was given to pupils and staff at Hilderthorpe Primary.
Iain Lane, from Humberside Fire and Rescue Service, said: "It's going to be more in their minds so the more we can get the message to them the safer they will be."
The school visit is part of a fire safety campaign in the wake of the blaze.
A spokesman for the fire service said: "This tragic incident highlights the need to reinforce messages about fire safety and it is a good time to make people aware of it.
"It has also highlighted smoke alarms are a last resort.
"For an alarm to be activated, a fire must have started and we need to educate people about prevention."
Fire crews and police were called to the cul-de-sac, which is a short walk from the beach, at 2358 GMT.
Police said there was nothing to indicate the fire was deliberate.
