The Queen's Baton Relay visited Hull and Grimsby on Wednesday on day 12 of its trip around England. Patrick Revell, who organises voluntary sports activities in Hull, said he was shocked to have been nominated to take part. He carried the baton at The Deep sealife centre in the city.

Mr Revell handed over the Queen's Baton to Julie Williams, from Hull High Fliers Trampoline Club. Ms Williams said it "meant a lot to be chosen" to take part.

The relay is currently touring England ahead of the Glasgow Commonwealth Games next month. Another port of call for the baton was Havelock Academy in Grimsby.

Baton-bearer Andy Train was greeted amid much ceremony - and some loud drumming - at Havelock Academy.

He, along with student Grace, took a close look at the intricacies of the baton, which contains a secret message from the Queen.

Another handover of the baton took place at Humberston Academy in Grimsby, where hundreds of pupils had gathered to celebrate.

One child at Edward Heneage Primary in Grimsby guessed the Queen's Baton contained "a puzzle" rather than a message from the monarch.
