Eleven people were arrested after police stopped an organised armed fight at an East Yorkshire park.

A 46-year-old man and 10 boys and girls between 15 and 17 were arrested shortly after arriving at Northend Park in Driffield on Monday evening.

Police said they arrived in a white van allegedly carrying an axe, pipes and baseball bats.

Eight calls were made by concerned members of the public at around 18:45 BST on Monday.

Two 17-year-old boys, one 17-year-old girl, five 16-year-old boys and two 15-year-old girls, all from Bridlington, were arrested as well as the 46-year-old man.

A police spokesperson said it could have ended "very seriously" if officers had not arrested the group so quickly.

Members of the public said "up to 15 people" had left the van with weapons.

The group is thought to have driven 12 miles from Bridlington with the intention of fighting with another group from Driffield.

One of the 16-year-old boys was also arrested for possession of a controlled drug.

A Humberside Police spokesperson said: "It appears this may have been an organised dispute, however officers quickly attended and arrested 11 people, adults and minors, for affray.

"We have seized the white van. The people believed to be involved in the incident were formally interviewed yesterday and have been released on police bail until October, pending further enquiries."
