A teenage boy who fell into a quarry in Kent was rescued after using his mobile phone to call police.

The 15-year-old fell about 50ft (15.2m) off the edge of the quarry, in Detling, and was forced to hold on to bracken to stop himself falling further.

Neighbourhood officers used a tow rope for the boy to hold on to until Kent Fire and Rescue Service arrived and used a ladder to reach him.

He was taken to hospital on Tuesday evening with minor injuries.

Insp Alan Rogers said: "Officers continued to speak to the boy throughout the incident to keep him calm."
