The officers were suspended after CCTV footage was posted online last year
The case against two Kent police officers accused of conspiracy to pervert the course of public justice has been dropped.
The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) offered no evidence against PC Daniel Short and PC Geoff Keen.
They were suspended from duty over allegations concerning a suspected shoplifter in Canterbury in July 2013.
They remain suspended pending a full review of the case.
Insufficient evidence
An allegation of assault was originally made against three officers after CCTV footage posted online appeared to show officers restraining a suspect by grabbing him by the throat and then repeatedly punching him.
Kent Police said it was investigating the allegation.
In August, the CPS said PCs Keen and Short would face a trial accused of conspiracy to pervert the course of public justice but there was insufficient evidence of assault for a realistic prospect of conviction.
A judge at Maidstone Crown Court ruled in July there was insufficient evidence to proceed with a case of perverting the course of justice against the third officer.
He has since has returned to work on restricted duties.
