Police found Ms Tapp's body at a house in Southborough

A man has been found not guilty of murdering his 58-year-old partner at their home in Kent by reason of insanity.

Keith Solly, 63, of Lady's Gift Road, in Southborough, stood trial for the murder of Yvonne Tapp at Maidstone Crown Court. He had denied the charge.

Her body was found by police called to the same address last December.

Solly was ordered to be detained indefinitely at a secure mental health institution.

'Special person'

Det Insp Lee Whitehead described it as "a tragic case, where friends and family have lost someone who was very dear to them".

He said Solly would now "receive the medical care that he needs, whilst protecting the public".

In a statement, Ms Tapp's family said: "Mum was a special person and is missed every day.

"We are glad that the jury accepted he killed my mum even though they could not find him guilty.

"However, we understand that this verdict means he will receive the mental health treatment he needs.

"This treatment is too late to save mum... What happened to mum is a tragedy and my family is not the only one hurting."
