A man in his 20s has died in a suspected hit-and-run in Kent.

Kent Police were called to reports of an injured man on the A26 slip road that joins the northbound A21 at Tonbridge at 01:40 BST on Saturday.

The force said the man, a local resident who has not yet been named, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Insp Martin Stevens said: "It is thought the man was involved in a collision with a vehicle which then made off."

'Over 100 drivers sought'

Police were making urgent inquiries to identify and trace the vehicle and its driver, he said.

He said officers knew 109 vehicles used that stretch of road between 01:00 and 01:40.

The force now wants to speak to each of those drivers as a matter of urgency, he added.

"We have got a list of all the vehicles we know travelled along the A26 near to the scene and are working now to identify those that may have been involved."

He said police would be able to quickly rule people out if they were unsure whether they were in one of those vehicles or not.

Any driver who travelled on the road at that time has been asked to call Kent Police, external, quoting Operation Nucleus.
