Officers were called to Wellington Court, near Turf Moor football ground, at about 15:00 on Monday
A man and woman have been arrested on suspicion of murder following the death of a newborn baby.
The girl was found at a house in Wellington Court in Burnley on Monday.
An post mortem found she had "a number of injuries which require further examination", Lancashire Police said.
A man, 30, and woman, 26, both from Burnley, were arrested on Tuesday on suspicion of concealing the birth of a child and initially released without charge, before being re-arrested.
Det Ch Insp Jill Johnston said it was "a complex investigation" and appealed for anybody with information to come forward.
