A 27-year-old man has appeared before Leeds magistrates charged with attempted rape.
The man from Beeston was remanded in custody for trial at Leeds Crown Court.
He is alleged to have assaulted a woman on a canal towpath near Whitehall Road in Holbeck on Sunday evening.
West Yorkshire Police said a 19-year-old man who was also arrested in connection with the incident has been released without charge.
