A £4.5m funding bid is being submitted to the government to improve transport in two Leicestershire towns.
The county council said the money would be used to cut congestion in Coalville and Loughborough and boost the local economies.
The towns were identified as priority areas for investment in the Local Transport Plan for Leicestershire.
The proposal would see improvements to buses and trains and expansion of the existing cycling and walking network.
Business support
Lesley Pendleton, Leicestershire County Council cabinet member for environment and transport, said: "Transport is a vital factor in our everyday lives and we're seizing the opportunity to make big improvements.
"Ultimately, better transport plays a big part in making sure that Leicestershire remains an attractive place to live, work and visit."
About 70 businesses have backed the bid which the council is set to submit towards the end of the month.
The proposals will be presented to the council's cabinet when it meets on 10 February.
