Oliwier Baczyk and Zofia Tabaka were in pushchairs when they were hit by a car
A woman who denies causing the deaths of two toddlers whose pushchairs were hit in a crash involving two cars was driving above the speed limit and using a hands-free phone, a court is told.
Oliwier Baczyk, one, and Zofia Tabaka, two, died in hospital after the crash in Leicester on 6 August 2012.
Sharmila Mistry, 41, of Dalby Avenue, Bushby, is accused of causing death by careless or inconsiderate driving.
A 61-year-old man arrested at the time of the collision has since died.
The court was told the defendant was driving her BMW at 36mph in a 30mph zone when she was hit by a Mini.
This pushed her car into the two children at the junction of Braunstone Gate and Narborough Road.
The jury at Leicester Crown Court was told the driving of both motorists involved fell below the standards of competent driving.
The case continues.
