The new campus is planned to open in September 2015.
A £24m Merseyside school which closed after only four years is to become the new campus for a community college.
The Christ the King Centre for Learning, in Huyton, closed because it failed to attract enough pupils.
Knowsley Community College has been given £7m by the Skills Funding Agency to "remodel" the building.
Principal Steve Logan said: "We can almost create an educational village as the building is walking distance from our Princess Drive annexe."
He said the building already has "amazing sports facilities" including synthetic pitches, a gym and sports hall.
The redevelopment will include building a restaurant serving food produced by catering students and a shopping mall-style atrium with hair and beauty salons, he added.
The new campus is planned to open in September 2015.
The Christ the King Centre for Learning, a joint Roman Catholic-Church of England school, was £1m in debt and had been put into special measures when it closed.
