A bus driver has been arrested after a pedestrian was hit and killed in Merseyside.
The woman was struck by an out-of-service bus on Butts Lane, Southport on its way back to the depot just after 23:50 BST on Sunday.
A 56-year-old Burscough man is being held on suspicion of causing death by careless driving, said Merseyside Police.
Bus firm Arriva said it was co-operating with police.
Meols Cop Road has reopened between the Kew Roundabout and Butts Lane following its earlier closure due to the police investigation.
A statement from Arriva said: "We can confirm one of our buses has been involved in a serious incident whilst running out-of-service back to the depot on Sunday night.
"Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the woman, who sadly passed away, and our driver who we are supporting through this difficult time."
