Three men have been jailed for the murder of a boy who was stabbed in the back in Merseyside on New Year's Day.

Jordan Campbell, 17, was found in a flat on Tickle Avenue, St Helens.

Ruben Hoather, 22, and Daniel Wiltshire, 25, were jailed for a minimum of 19 years and 21 years respectively after pleading guilty to murder at an earlier hearing.

Mark Wood, 32, who was found guilty by a jury at Liverpool Crown Court on 9 July, was jailed for 21 years.

Wiltshire lived in Wargrave Road, Newton-le-Willows, and Hoather lived in Tickle Avenue.

'Brutal and unprovoked'

Wood, from Elephant Lane, Thatto Heath, pleaded guilty at an earlier hearing to perverting the course of justice over lies he told in a witness statement to police.

Det Sgt Jackie Guinness, of Merseyside Police, said the attack was "brutal and unprovoked".

"Jordan had his whole life ahead of him and the actions of these three men have taken his future away and have left a big hole in his family."

Mairead Neeson, from the Crown Prosecution Service, added: "Jordan Campbell had been celebrating the new year at a party with the very men who later went on to brutally murder him.

"His attackers then tried to cover up their crime, even attempting to burn his lifeless body to try to obscure the injuries they had inflicted."

She added the new year would now be "a reminder of their loss" for Jordan's family and friends.
