Two senior nurses who abused patients and staff at St Mary's Hospital in Kettering have been struck off after being found guilty of misconduct.
Susan Horton and Sarah Cullum were in charge of a ward caring for elderly patients with mental health problems.
The Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) heard that Ms Horton had engaged in violent conduct towards patients, striking a bi-polar man in his 70s.
Both targeted a colleague with racist abuse, the hearing was told.
The hearing was also told Ms Cullum left a patient on the floor for two hours and the pair impersonated monkeys as part of a racist campaign against a black colleague.
Ms Cullum and Ms Horton told other staff at the hospital to "save the bananas" for the colleague, the Nursing and Midwifery Council heard.
They denied most of the allegations against them but the hearing found the nurses' fitness to practise was impaired by reason of misconduct.
